KEVLAR® 50 fire-resistant yarn: high strength and fire resistance

Flame-resistant KEVLAR® 50 thread is a high-strength aramid material developed for sewing products exposed to extreme temperatures and increased mechanical loads. It is made from Kevlar® fibers, an innovative material known for its heat resistance, lightness, and incredible strength.

KEVLAR® 50 thread does not melt, burn, or support combustion. Even when heated to 370°C, it maintains its structure, ensuring seam integrity and durability of the finished product. Thanks to these properties, it is widely used in industrial applications, workwear, heat-resistant accessories, and technical textiles.

Chemical Composition and Structural Features

KEVLAR® 50 This is a thread made of para-aramid fibers obtained by the polycondensation of terephthaloyl and para-phenylenediamine. This structure gives the thread:

  • high tensile strength — several times higher than that of polyester and nylon threads;
  • heat and flame resistance — the material does not melt even with direct contact with a heat source;
  • low elongation — seams remain stable under load;
  • minimal shrinkage when heated — the product does not deform when ironed or dried;
  • chemical resistance — resistant to oils, solvents, alkalis, and weak acids.

Visually, KEVLAR® thread 50 has a characteristic yellow hue and dense structure, making it easily recognizable among other heat-resistant threads.

Advantages of using KEVLAR® 50 fire-resistant thread

  1. Heat resistance up to +370°C

The material maintains its strength and shape when exposed to high temperatures. This makes it ideal for seams subject to constant heat.

  1. Flammability

KEVLAR® 50 thread does not ignite or melt, which is especially important when sewing workwear and protective elements.

  1. Mechanical strength

The fibers have high resistance to abrasion, cuts, and stretching. Seams do not unravel even under intensive use.

  1. Chemical Resistance

KEVLAR® 50 is resistant to oils, fuels, solvents, and other aggressive substances.

  1. Durability

Products made with this thread retain their integrity even after hundreds of washing, ironing, and drying cycles.

  1. Aesthetic Seam Appearance

KEVLAR® 50 thread lays smoothly and neatly without twisting, which is especially important in industrial sewing.

Applications of KEVLAR® 50

  1. Workwear and Protective Equipment

KEVLAR® 50 thread is widely used in the production of suits for welders, firefighters, metalworkers, and workers in the oil, gas, and energy industries. It ensures seam resistance when exposed to flames, sparks, and hot surfaces.

  1. Heat-Resistant Gloves and Accessories

KEVLAR® 50 is used in the production of protective gloves, mittens, and pads that protect hands from heat, mechanical damage, and sparks.

  1. Footwear Manufacturing

Used to reinforce the seams of footwear designed for rescue workers, military personnel, and industrial personnel. Seams maintain their strength under constant friction and heat.

  1. Technical Textiles

KEVLAR® 50 thread is used to create thermal insulation covers, filters, belts, gaskets, and components that require resistance to temperature fluctuations.

  1. Automotive and Aviation Industry

The material is used in the production of interior parts, upholstery, and thermal protection elements where light weight, reliability, and vibration resistance are important.

How to Choose KEVLAR® 50 Fire-Resistant Thread

To ensure that KEVLAR® 50 thread exhibits all its properties, it is important to select it correctly for specific applications:

  • Fabric Type – For dense materials (canvas, leather, technical fabric), choose a thicker thread; for lighter materials, choose a thinner one.
  • Temperature conditions: KEVLAR® 50 is suitable for continuous use up to +350°C and short-term exposure up to +450°C.
  • Needle thickness and thread tension should match the density of the material to avoid breakage.
  • Sewing equipment type: the thread works well on industrial machines, especially with Teflon-coated guides.

Before mass sewing, it is recommended to make a test seam to optimally adjust the tension and sewing speed.

Tips for use and care of products

  1. Products with KEVLAR® thread 50 is washable at up to 60°C;
  2. Do not use bleach or harsh chemicals;
  3. Iron through a cloth or on a moderate setting;
  4. Store the product in a dry, dark place, away from direct sunlight.

Proper care extends the life of the seams and preserves the heat-resistant properties of the material.

Why choose KEVLAR® 50

KEVLAR® 50 combines strength, reliability, and safety. The thread is resistant to extreme temperatures, mechanical stress, and chemical exposure. It is suitable for sewing professional equipment, where it is important that every stitch withstands the test of fire and time.

Using KEVLAR® 50 is This guarantees quality, durability, and compliance with modern safety standards. This material is indispensable for production facilities where every stitch counts.
